Can The Gravitational Pull Of Negativity Be Overcome?

Negativity plagues most human beings to a such a degree that many experience symptoms from depression to a simple loss of the joy of life. Negativity shows up in our lives as an energy and also as a recurring event so it can seem like a permanent feature in our lives. The good news is that there is a way to change this.
What Is Negativity?
Let’s start with a definition. What is negativity anyway?
According to vocabulary.com,
Negativity is a tendency to be downbeat, disagreeable, and skeptical. It’s a pessimistic attitude that always expects the worst. Negative outcomes are bad outcomes, like losing a game, getting a disease, suffering an injury, or getting something stolen. Negativity is an attitude that always expects such negative things to happen. “I bet it’ll rain during our picnic!” and “No one could ever love me!” are examples of negativity. “The world is getting worse and worse!” is negativity. Someone full of negativity is hard to cheer up, and they always expect the worst. The opposite of negativity is positivity.
Negativity, as you can see, is a much deeper issue than an unpleasant outcome; it is an attitude and even a worldview that sees life, and people through an unfavorable lens.
Why Negativity Is So Difficult
Negativity is not new. It may be as old as the human race. As a result, it is baked into us as part of our inheritance. We inherit the legacy of the past, but that is not the end of the story. “According to Rachel Carlton Abrams, M.D., 5-10% of diseases are attributed to inherited genetics, while 25% are influenced by womb experiences, and 65-70% are influenced by environment,” per this article.
It would seem that we are predisposed toward outcomes based on what we have received from prior generations, but there is much we can do to influence our own lives. Therefore, the source of negativity and pessimistic ways of thinking can come from a variety of sources. If we want to change the story of our lives, we must, therefore, look for all avenues that will support our developing a more productive outlook on life and about other people.
How Can We Tame And Transform Negativity?
Many people tackle negativity, and there are many ways to do so. Meditation, mindfulness techniques, therapy, etc. There are so many wonderful ways to influence your self-expression; what happens, however, is that we usually adopt techniques that help but are not able to put the negativity to bed.
Negativity can seem like a function of our minds, and it is that; however, it is not only that. Negativity lives in our emotions, our energies, our bodies, and in our cultural systems, which include our relationships. Therefore, we need an approach that addresses negativity in all areas so that we can be free finally to enthusiastically live and enjoy our lives.
