Daily Biorhythm And Stress

Stress, especially chronic stress, adversely impacts the daily biorhythm of highly sensitive people. Stress disrupts the natural state of harmony in the body until measures are taken to restore balance.

What is balance, imbalance and why do they matter? How are imbalances, stress, and health related?

When we say that someone is healthy, what we usually mean is that they are without symptoms of illness. Traditionally, health has been defined as the presence or absence of disease. The World Health Organization has since created a more holistic view of health that better suits the health needs of the complex human system. The World Health Organization states that the definition of health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”[1]   It is interesting that one of the most ancient and holistic health care systems in the world, Ayurveda, has a similar definition. One of the ancient experts of Ayurveda described health as a “state of physiological, psychological and spiritual well-being.” Stress interferes with well-being and the daily biorhythm by creating imbalances which make daily functioning more difficult and eventually result in illness.

Imbalances, Stress, and Health

How do we achieve a balanced state of well-being? The most effective way is to become informed about all of the ways in which our daily biorhythm becomes out of balance, through lifestyles or other causes, and develop strategies to minimize, eliminate or counteract the imbalance, an inevitable source of future disease.

I may sound like a big challenge to manage imbalances. It does take some learning and work, however, there is a HUGE upside to creating more balance in your life.

  1. You will feel wonderful, which can only enhance your work, relationships, and enjoyment of life.
  2. You eliminate the fear of a future illness caused by lifestyle errors.
  3. You will minimize your need for medical attention and all the financial costs of being sick.
  4. The less you need the medical system, the more sustainable the system becomes. You will be ensuring that the resources will be more likely available when a need arises, for you or someone else.

So what is balance or imbalance? According to Ayurveda, balance is a state of unison between all aspects of the human being. That means that your entire being is working harmoniously. When an imbalance occurs it is a disruption of a person’s natural state of harmony. This means that there is a correspondence between a healthy daily biorhythm and the feeling of well-being.

The body’s immune system is prepared to handle some of the wear and tear of daily living, but not continuous, excessive levels of stress created by poor diet, little sleep, overwork, aggressive entertainment and other mistakes. We can do our part, to create balance by supporting the immune system with healthy diets, adequate sleep, moderate exercise and managing our way of life so that it supports our well-being.

Health in its essence is a higher state of consciousness.

Deepak Chopra, Perfect Health,Three Rivers Press, New York, 2000, p. 6.

One way to think about imbalances and stress is to think of them as a feeding each other. Negative stressors on the daily biorhythm can create a negative feedback loop or negative spiral which it is wise to counteract as much as possible.

Self-Knowledge, Imbalances, And Stress

The easiest way to understand your health needs, to reduce imbalances, and minimize stress is to become acquainted with your systems needs and requirements, strengths and weaknesses. Imbalances, stress and the daily biorhythm can be brought under control to create greater quality of life for highly sensitive people.
